Can you get paid to write poetry | Here are two poems which earned me a dollar in 2012

It has been twelve years and this incident is still fresh in my mind. Who would have thought back then that writing poems could earn you money?

All that I could see everyone around say was that writing poems is a leisurely activity, it is simply a waste of time, what could writing poems give someone? And then one morning, while browsing online spaces, where I could submit poems for the sake of sharing it with everyone, I found the Three Line Poetry website.

Expressing a complete poem only in three lines? Exactly! I experienced the same surprise which you may be going through right now. Not being a student of formal literature studies, these forms of poetry (including haiku, tercets, quartets, sonnets and others) were completely new and exciting for me.

‘Was this a fake website? Why is there no entry fee? Why would someone pay if my poems are accepted for publishing?’ I was in two minds whether or not to submit. Most of the online literature journals do not pay even today.

What’s the worst that could happen? Rejection. I managed to compose a couple of three-line poems and submitted them. I will definitely share the unpublished three-line poems in a separate post. Much to my surprise, two poems were accepted and I was forced to create a Paypal account.
